INDONESIA
Reaching Hearts for Kids (RHK)now sponsors four orphanages in Indonesia: YAPI (Yayasan Advent Peduli Indonesia) in Medan, North Sumatra, one in Singkawang, Kalimantan, another in Kawangkoan near Manado, Sulawesi, and the fourth orphanage in Kupang in Nusa Tenggara.
The orphanage in Medan was opened on January 3, 2006. Reaching Hearts for Kids and our partner, HELP International, contributed to the completion of the home for the director and his family and together support the children in these four orphanages. The Singkawang orphanage was started by a local minister, Pastor Willem. Together he and his wife volunteer and care for twenty-two orphans in their small home. Currently their only support is from Reaching Hearts for Kids, but their building requires major repairs and maintenance, as well as the addition of a few rooms for sleeping quarters for boys and girls.
The other two orphanages are quite new; they were both opened in 2008. A total of 119 children now have hope for a better future. Each orphanage serves a different part of Indonesia and gives children who have no home a place to learn and grow up in a safe environment.
